For optimal health, I recommend keeping your mornings fat-free with an abundance of fruits to help your body detox and this smoothie is a wonderful way to assist. This is my favourite green smoothie when I’m in the mood for something that’s not icy cold, but really healing.  This is also my go-to when I have an early morning and want to prep something ahead of time, as it keeps well in the fridge overnight!  Filled with kale (abundant in vitamins A, C, E, K, B-complex, Omega-3 fatty acids, and minerals like copper, iron, magnesium and potassium); cilantro (a natural chelator of heavy metals); pear (helps feed beneficial bacteria, while starving unproductive bacteria, parasites and fungus); banana (high in boron, copper, manganese, molybdenum, potassium, selenium, and also high in tryptophan which helps reduce anxiety and depression); lemon (high in vitamin C and is an amazing cleanser of the liver, kidneys, spleen, thyroid and gallbladder) and ginger (naturally antiviral, antibiotic, anti-parasitic and antispasmodic).  This smoothie is a nutrition power house that will leaving you feeling energized, vibrant and make your skin glow…bonus!

Ingredients:

1 cup of packed kale, washed and de-stemmed

1 large bunch cilantro, washed

1 inch ginger, peeled and roughly chopped

Juice from 1 lemon

1 pear

1 ripe banana

1/4 cup filtered water

Instructions:

Pack the kale, cilantro and ginger into the base of a high-speed blender, add lemon juice and water, blend.  Add a smidge more water if needed.  Add pear and banana, blend until smooth.  Pour and enjoy, or store in the fridge overnight in seal jar.

Tip: If I’ve made it the night before, I like to add the juice from an additional freshly squeezed lemon right before eating to “wake up” the flavours!
